Often recognized as the familiar, soothing voice heard daily on 91.1 FM WFMU and 1430 AM WNJR, Rabbi Dovid Goldwasser disseminates Torah to tens of thousands, inspiring hearts and infusing minds. He has galvanized countless audiences from every background with his eloquence and dynamism through his multiple roles of educator, author, community leader, noted lecturer and spiritual mentor of Congregation Bais Yitzchok in Brooklyn, New York.
Rabbi Dovid Goldwasser has been published twice previously. two books. It Happened In Heaven, was a best seller, translated into foreign languages including Hebrew and Serbian. Something to Say was a book of insights into the weekly Torah portions. His latest book, Living on the Edge features inspirational stories he has encountered in his many travels around the world.
Rabbi Goldwasser is also a weekly columnist at The Jewish Press. In addition, a line of cassette tapes and videos of Rabbi Goldwasser's lectures and presentations have been produced by Allman Productions.
As principal of the Bais Yaakov of Midwood Seminary in Brooklyn and an acknowledged expert in educational concerns, Rabbi Goldwasser is consulted regularly. His keen perception and insight, as well as his caring and concern, have enabled him to offer much needed encouragement and inspiration to countless individuals, couples and families who have sought his guidance and counsel.
For a few years now an increasing number of people have been visiting Rabbi Goldwasser to discuss their problems with eating disorders. "When I met the first person with an eating disorder I felt this must've been the only person, the person I met was starving to death in order to become closer to G-d," Rabbi Goldwasser says. "By the time the second person came, I knew I had to do research. I went to Dr. Sacker, one of the leading experts on eating disorders and learnt a great deal from him. As I became more knowledgeable, more and more people were sent to me and I referred more and more people to him. We became extremely close. We have worked on many projects together. We are still actively involved staying abreast of all the issues and finding solutions." Rabbi Goldwasser I have taken the initiative to address the critical issue of eating disorders at seminars and have been talking in Yeshivas.
Rabbi Goldwasser has been recognized by a broad range of institutions and organizations for his work in education, outreach and youth crisis intervention, and is consulted regularly on compelling issues related to thecomplexities and difficulties of modern times. He has been featured in a special series on WABC and WCBS, as well as CNN.
Among other honors, Rabbi Goldwasser has received the Agudath Israel of America Communal Service Award, Alumnus of the Year from Yeshiva Zichron Melech, Award for Outstanding Service to the Jewish Community from the Board of Jewish Education, Distinguished Rabbinic Leadership Award from Jerusalem Reclamation Project, and the Special Achievement Award from the HEED Prevention Program for Young Adults.
Rabbi Goldwasser currently serves on the advisory board of Big Brother/Big Sister, HEED Prevention Program for Young Adults, Shalom Task Force, the Mentoring Program of the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office, and is actively involved in Ohel Family Services. Rabbi Goldwasser is also affiliated with the National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association and MASK (Mothers Aligned Saving Kids). Over the past several years, he has also turned his attention to the needs of children and adults affected by eating disorders and has counseled scores of young people back to good health.
One of the pioneers of the outreach movement, Rabbi Goldwasser has a special talent to reach and affect the greater community through his warm and sincere personality, as well as through his keen penetrating Torah insights into the human condition.
Rabbi Goldwasser has traveled extensively throughout the world speaking in synagogues and Jewish community centers on a variety of subjects. In the past few years he made several trips to the war-torn communities in Bosnia, Serbia and Croatia. There Rabbi Goldwasser offered words of encouragement and inspiration to those who suffered through the war and were now trying to rebuild their lives.
